Mike Marlar
Podium finish in Spring Nationals opener at Swainsboro
With Mother Nature axing the World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series weekend, Mike Marlar called an audible and headed to Swainsboro Raceway (Swainsboro, Ga.) on Friday afternoon to pilot his Delk Equipment Sales No. 157 Late Model for the Schaeffer’s Spring Nationals miniseries opener.
Drawing 32 cars, Marlar followed up the fourth-fastest time in his qualifying group before finishing second in his heat. Earning the eighth-starting position for the $10,053-to-win A-Main, Mike charged forward five spots in the 53-lap affair to register a third-place finish. He chased Brandon Overton and Sam Seawright to the checkers.
The team followed the series to Senoia Raceway (Senoia, Ga.) on Saturday but only took part in time trials due to track conditions after a recent shower.
In a field of 29 Southern All Star Series entries on Sunday at Cherokee Speedway (Gaffney, S.C.), Mike claimed the fastest time honors in time trials before placing first in his heat race. Earning the pole for the $20,000-to-win Ginger Owens March Madness, Marlar led laps 1-35 but suffered a flat right-front tire that forced him pitside on lap 36.
