Mike Marlar second in Wild West Shootout finale
Mike Marlar and the Skyline Motorsports team returned to Vado Speedway Park (Vado, N.M.) on Wednesday for the final four rounds of the 18th annual Rio Grande Waste Services Wild West Shootout.
After sneaking into the opener with the fourth-and-final transfer spot in his heat, Mike was an early retiree of the 30-lap feature on lap 19.
Back at the 3/8-mile oval on Friday, Marlar followed fifth-fastest in his group with a third-place finish in his heat. Coming one spot shy of a Top-5 finish in the feature, Mike climbed three positions to register a sixth-place outing.
On Saturday, Mike earned $100 from Swift Springs for the overall fast time honors before leading flag-to-flag in his heat. With $11,000 on the line in the main event, Marlar lost three spots to finish seventh.
The Wild West Shootout drew to a close for Marlar on Sunday with the Winfield, Tenn., native standing on the podium in the finale. Starting the $25,000-to-win A-Main in second, Mike lost ground in the middle stages after leading laps 1-13 but rallied to finish second. He followed Kyle Larson across the line with Cade Dillard, Garrett Alberson, and Stormy Scott rounding out the Top-5.
Mike finished sixth in the final WWS point standings.
